Make Valentine’s Day 2024 the best one yet – date ideas for long term couples
Let’s face it. You and your partner have been together for a while. Maybe even a loonnggg while. Valentine’s Day is typically only exciting for the first few years of your relationship at best.
Good news. In 2024, I’ve got some ideas that’ll help you and your partner to get silly, romantic, or cozy together this Valentine’s Day!
Romantic Date Ideas
- Become florists together – whether you’ve built a flower arrangement before or not, stop by your local garden shop or even your grocery store and pick up flowers of various types. You’ll also need a vase of your choice. A classic combo I like to use is roses (yellow are my favorite) and baby’s breath. Check out this helpful article on simple flower arrangements from Cascade Floral Wholesale.
- Share a candlelit dinner – make your favorite dinner together (doesn’t need to be fancy – my partner and I made mac n’ cheese one year) and turn off all the lights. Light some tea or stick candles and voila! You’ve got a romantic candlelit dinner. Maybe consider researching some romantic questions you can ask your partner while you eat!
- Paint together – go to your local craft store and pick up some paints, paintbrushes, and canvases. Paint something together on the same canvas OR paint something separately to gift to one another when you’re done! Maybe paint the landscape of a place you once had a date or paint your partner as a Spongebob character! Silly, romantic, or elegant! Get creative. And maybe splatter some paint on them (it was obviously an accident).
- Become each other’s pen pals – hang out in the same room and write love letters to one another (printed or hand written so you can keep it or hang it up somewhere). Describe all of the things that you love about them, how they make you laugh, and share stories of core memories you have with them. Read them aloud to one another when you’re both finished and share your thoughts, compliments, and appreciation of one another
Silly Date Ideas
- Amusement park – find the nearest amusement park and do some bumper cars or go karts (honk honk!). Ride a roller coaster and do a contest to see who can hold their screams in the longest. Eat some fried food, ice cream, and mini donuts. Maybe even have a friend or family member create an amusement park scavenger hunt that you and your partner do while you’re there! Get creative.
- Dance battle – challenge your partner to a dance battle! Rehearse your moves beforehand and bust out your moves like Jagger! If a dance battle seems too intense, pick a type of dance (tango, waltz, foxtrot, break dance) and find a routine you and your partner can (attempt) to learn together! If anything, it’ll make you giggle – hehe.
- Car concert – you and your partner are obviously the best singers and the biggest pop stars around! Make a playlist full of all of your favorite songs or pick a CD you love, hop in the car, and blast that sh*t! Drive aimlessly (and safely please <3) and belt those beautiful vocals.
- Couples shopping challenge – go shopping for all of your partner’s favorites! Go to your favorite grocery or department store together and separate to find:
- Something that’s their favorite color
- Something that symbolizes your love for one another
- Something they buy weekly
- Something they need
- A snack they eat too much of
- An item they would bring to a stranded island with them
- A board game they’d like
Then reveal all of the items to them when you get home. They’ll do the same for you.
Cozy Date Ideas
- Coffee/tea samplerĀ – make all of your favorite teas and/or coffees and share samples with one another. Cuddle up in a cozy blanket and sip on these drinks while you watch a movie, read a book together, or listen to your favorite podcast.
- Volunteer at an animal shelter together – volunteer at your local animal shelter and spend the day cuddling some adorable cats, dogs, and cozy critters. Challenge yourselves NOT to take one home. Good luck, friends!
- Plant new plant friends – whether you want to grow a strawberry plant or a monstera, spend the night potting, watering, and fertilizing some new plants. This is your excuse to buy MORE plants! Just do it.
- Make candles at home – go to your local craft store and pick up some soy, coconut, or beeswax, some candle fragrances, and some wicks. If you don’t already have one, pick up a food thermometer too. Find some empty glass cups or mugs and make candles! You can find the directions on A Beautiful Mess’ blog!
